Chasseur Alpin Large Beret - Elosegui
Unlike the Basque beret, the Alpine hunter's beret is wider to offer better protection from the elements, such as snow and rain, but also, for those who fear it, from the sun. It was for all these reasons that Alpine hunter units officially adopted it in 1891, a decision taken directly by the Ministry of War at the time. The beret quickly became their emblem, and its warm wool and wider waistband enabled them to protect their feet while on guard duty in the mountains. This alpine hunter's beret, also known as a tarte, is made in the Basque country from 100% wool. The wool has been treated to make it waterproof, so you're protected in all types of weather.
