His hat is the homburg model, which is a stiff hat with a crease running the length of the crown and no pinches on the front, the homburg has a sharply raised brim all the way round.
Homburgs are typically made from wool or hair felt with grosgrain and an optional feather.
The homburg hat was popularized by Edward VII after he visited Germany and brought back a hat of this design. It is one of the oldest hats and was worn by many politicians and diplomats in the mid-twentieth century.
