Medula Pigskin Stetson hat
A trilby hat (or simply trilby, originally Trilby chapeau) is a hat worn by men. The hat has narrow brims and a deeply recessed crown. Traditionally, it was made from rabbit hair, but now it's sometimes made from other materials, such as tweed or wool.
Trilbies are softer than Homburgs, and have a soft edge instead of a curve. They are similar to fedoras, but with a narrower brim. The hat comes from a play based on George du Maurier's 1894 novel Trilby. A hat in this style was worn on stage during the reading of the first London production. The trilby has been a symbol of chic, classy elegance, and has been associated with jazz, ska and musicians' soul. It was popular among Rude Boy, mod, skinheads and 2 sub-Tone. In the UK, trilbies also became popular in Indie Emo and fashion.
British journalist William Norman Aiguière had the nickname Trilby because he was called upon to wear the hat. The trilby is also often worn by Inspector Clouseau, the character played by Peter Sellers in the film Pink Panther series. According to Sellers, he already owned a trenchcoat when he created the character, and he bought the Clouseau trilby in a store in London, England because he thought the hat quite naturally completed the outfit. The 1950s radio show The Goon Show makes frequent references to the hat, as does a description of Eccles in which he is seen wearing a "metal trilby."
