Reducing the size of your cap

Do you find yourself between two cap sizes? Don't panic, it's possible to modify it without having to sew. First of all, know that you won't be able to use cork shims, as it's not possible to put them on a cap (unlike hats). We rather advise you to slightly wet the entrance of your cap with slightly warm water and let it dry in a warm environment. Be careful, however, not to use water that's too hot, or to position the cap in an environment that's too warm (next to a radiator, for example), as this could greatly reduce it. The ideal would be to wet it and let it dry on your head so that it adapts to your head. Thus, the cap will naturally shrink.

Increasing the size of your cap

Firstly, steam the cap and use a wooden stretcher which is essential for stretching the fabric and enlarging it a bit more if it has had a size reduction. Place the stretcher with the conical wooden blocks that you put against the leather or fabric band to absorb moisture and to maintain the appropriate shape and size of the hat once stored. Once in the hat, use the screw to gently stretch it to avoid cracking the seams. This hat stretcher consists of two parts made of cedar wood. It can enlarge both caps and hats. It is made of robust and durable materials.

How to enlarge a leather cap?

Some materials require special care in maintenance and don't always have the same elasticity in terms of fibers. While leather seems to be a less flexible textile than other fabrics, a quality hat allows you to easily enlarge your leather cap. Indeed, the leather fibers can allow for a slight enlargement using the same process we explained above. You thus enjoy a headwear perfectly adapted to your head size for optimal comfort and a unique style that perfectly matches your outfits.

How to know if a cap is too big?

Following a purchase or a gift from one of your loved ones, you may quickly realize that your cap is too big. Indeed, it is then wider than your head circumference and tends to fall over your eyes or backwards. A certain discomfort that doesn't allow you to fully enjoy your new trendy accessory. Your cap can also become too big if you have recently changed your hairstyle with a significant loss of volume or if your headwear has deformed over time. In any case, you can use the methods described above to shrink your cap without damaging it.

What are the limits of enlargement or shrinkage?

Regardless of the technique used to enlarge or shrink your cap, it's important to understand that it's about gaining comfort through a few millimeters more or less. Indeed, if the difference between the size of your cap and your head circumference is too significant, you won't be able to optimally adjust your headwear with a shrinking or enlarging process. With reasonable expectations and an appropriate method, it only takes a few manipulations to rediscover the pleasure of wearing your cap.

What type of cap can be shrunk or enlarged?
