In the second half of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the boater became the masculine summer hat par excellence. Women finally adopted it after 1950... Today, many children wear the boater for ceremonial occasions. The scene in Renoir's famous painting "Le déjeuner des canotiers" featured this headgear. The way the boater was worn was codified, so fashion dictated that it should be worn slightly tilted forward and tilted over the ear.
This is a genuine, high-quality, triple-thickness sewn-straw boater. It also features a plain black grosgrain (which can be changed to suit your needs), as well as a salpa (reconstituted leather) interior grosgrain for ease of wear. The canotier is a straw hat with a narrow brim and flat bottom; fashionable at the beginning of the 20th century, appreciated by cyclists and sportsmen in general.

Au départ surpris par la consistance des trois épaisseurs de paille très denses, puis agréablement surpris par son côté fonctionnel et son ergonomie. Il est parfait.

Très beau canotier à l'ancienne, avec beaucoup d'allure. Mais, compte tenu du prix, on aurait aimé que le gros-grain ait été mieux ajusté (c'est heureusement facile à corriger) de même que le bandeau intérieur. Une doublure en toile, comme la plupart des modèles d'époque en avaient, aurait aussi été bienvenue (j'en ai fait une). Bref, un chapeau de très belle facture, bien loin des canotiers bon marché et informes qu'on rencontre partout, mais avec des finitions qui ne sont pas tout à fait à la hauteur de sa qualité.

Le stetson est super, mais le canotier en triple paille n'est pas assez large (en largueur) par rapport à la longueur. Le premier canotier que j'ai acheté il y a 2 semainesétait parfait. Pourqui cette difference?
