Here's a history lesson: In Istanbul, the checheya was called "Fez" or "phecy" while the modern Egyptian version was called "tarboosh" (pronounced tar-boosh), derived from the Persian words "sar" meaning head and "poosh" meaning cover.
Cone-shaped hat, flat-topped made of felt. Originating from Fez, Morocco, it was later adopted in Istanbul where the Fez color stuck to red.
The black tassel is thick with long fringe.
