Here's a history lesson: In Istanbul, checheya was called "Fez" or "phecy", while the modern Egyptian version was called "tarboosh" (pronounced tar-boosh), a derivative of the Persian words "sar" meaning head and "poosh" meaning cover.
Cone-shaped, flat-completed hat made of felt. Originating in Fez, Morocco, it was later adopted in Istanbul where the color of Fez stuck to red.
The black tassel is thick and the fringe long.
