National Defense Medals with Gendarmerie clasp. HISTORY: Recently created (decree of 21/04/1982), this decoration was created by Charles Hernu (Minister of Defense). He took up the idea of General de Boissieu (Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor - former Chief of Staff of the Army), who was keen to reward military personnel completing national service as well as active service military personnel. This medal makes it possible to reduce the time required to obtain one of the national orders or the Military Medal.
