Bachi de Marin "Petite Flotte" Navy Blue Wool Traclet
Contrary to popular belief, this model is not called béret de marin, but bonnet de marin, or Bachi in French maritime. The bachi is the name given to the headgear worn by sailors up to petty officers. From the rank of chief officer upwards, he wears a cap.
In the French Navy, the cap is topped with a red pompom. Normally fitted with a chinstrap to hold it in place in windy conditions, this model has no chinstrap. Popular belief has it that the pom-pom has a shock-absorbing function, but this is not the case, as it is not adopted as the standard marine cap for other navies.
