Massoud Pakol in fabric for men and women. Authentic pakol from Pakistan. The pakol is used by freedom fighters in Afghanistan; this hat, as we have seen in the media, is widely worn there.
Traditional wool hat. The wearer rolls the base of the hat creating the desired fit and style. Color: slight variations of tan/camel/light brown depending on the dye lot. Size: one size fits all (like a women's beret) stretches over the head and is modified by rolling. It keeps the head warm, is comfortable to wear and easily shapes as you direct.
A bit of history about the Pakol hat
The pakol is an Afghan wool hat, these hats being handcrafted, they can be made from sheep's wool but also possibly with goat or camel hair. The interior is often lined with a cotton lining to prevent the wool from scratching the scalp. The shape of the pakol can be adjusted by rolling the edge more or less tightly.
The pakol is the most popular hat among men in northern Afghanistan.
It originally comes from the Afghan-Pakistani border area near Nuristan and northern Pakistan: Chitral.
A Pashtun ethnic hat that was made popular among Tajiks by the Northern Alliance and its leader Ahmad Shah Massoud.
This hat is said to be a legacy of Alexander the Great's passage; he was the first Greek king to wear the kausia, a similarly shaped hat.
This hat appears on coins, statues, paintings and mosaics from that era.
About the Black Pakol
- Size: approximately 56/58 cm
- The diameter of the pakol can vary for two reasons: it's not an industrial product and by adding pieces of fabric, thin strips, the size of the border roll can be increased.
- The pakol is rolled using the knee so that the size can be adjusted to fit each person's head circumference.
- The pakol comes in a variety of colors: brown, black, ivory, green, gray... and is sometimes embroidered.
