The Mau movement was the popular nonviolent movement for Samoan independence from German colonial rule in 1908. Undaunted by this philosophical uprising, Wilhelm Solf, the appointed governor of Samoa, brought in two giant warships as a demonstration of Germanys armed forces. The Mau movement soon faded. Advanced militarism always seems to win out over passive resistance (go figure). But you know what? Revolution is just a revelation of one collective human body armed.
