Women's Hats - Which Style for a Ceremony?

Are you invited to a ceremony, a gala, a wedding or any joyous occasion? Often, it's the opportunity to wear your prettiest outfit. Then we think about accessories: a pretty necklace, elegant earrings, or other jewelry... but what about a hat? Many of you still hesitate to buy a ceremony hat. Too flashy, too colorful, too understated or, simply, you don't think you have a face for hats. What a shame! The headwear is the final touch to any dressy outfit. It will both reveal your character and enhance your silhouette, so why deprive yourself? To remove any reservations, a tour of the classics is in order.

First of all, you need to know how to adapt your hat to the event you're going to attend. Each occasion should guide the choice of model. For a baptism or a gala, for example, you can dare to be colorful and original. On the contrary, it goes without saying that for a funeral, sobriety and discretion are required. Keep the context in mind when choosing your headwear.

The pillbox hat

Classic, it brings a retro touch to your outfit. Generally small in size, it comes in very diverse materials and colors. You can thus find sober pillbox hats in felt, or more colorful models with fancy trims. It's a hat that can be worn in any season since it simply sits on the head without being too warm.

The wide-brimmed hat

The timeless wide-brimmed hat, the one making its big comeback in fashion! Ideal for outdoor ceremonies, it can enhance your look while protecting you from the sun. To wear this hat with wide brims, it's preferable to be rather tall to avoid compressing your silhouette. They are made in all materials (sisal, fabric, straw...) and all colors. The brims can be more or less imposing, so also consider comfort when choosing. Regardless of the material, it's a very elegant hat that attracts attention.

The headband

A simple accessory that makes an impact! The headband has the advantage of being easy to put on and carefully adorning a simple hairstyle. It can be original and bold, or discreet and understated. More and more elaborate models are being found, with complex trims that combine different materials. To be worn with hair up or down, according to your preference.

The hair clip

Again, this is a quick-to-put-on accessory that comes in many different shapes. For short or long hair, it's easy to wear, regardless of your face shape. Moreover, just like the headband, it has the advantage of taking up little space and therefore being easily stored, or even carried in a handbag. The clip allows for easy placement, except on very smooth and fine hair where it might slip during the day.

The comb

Practical for brightening up a hairstyle, it however requires having a good thickness of hair for the same reasons as the hair clip. You will find numerous models of combs, most often made with a hemp trim. Some of these accessories even feature an elegant small veil that offers an elegantly sophisticated style.

The bandeau

With the success of the headband, the bandeau is returning for a Roaring Twenties style. Discreet or more original, there are many models made in a wide choice of materials. It can thus be composed of a decorative trim or simply be braided from straw. While it can be worn on loose hair, it will look even better on a styled hairdo: bun, dutch braid, crown... it's up to you!

The fascinator

The essential fascinator, a vintage basic! You can find them in all kinds and at all prices. It will elegantly accompany your hairstyle, in a timeless style. A tip: choose your fascinator based on your role in the event. It's better to avoid a model that's too eccentric or too large if you're simply invited to an acquaintance's event, at the risk of appearing to want to attract attention. On the contrary, if it's for your wedding, don't hesitate to think big!

The cloche hat

Typical of the 1920s, it's a classic that's not forgotten. Here, it's not about highlighting a hairstyle, as this hat covers a good part of it. It's important to choose it well and carefully match it with your outfit, to maintain a harmonious silhouette. In the style of the Roaring Twenties stars, you can wear it tilted, just above the eyebrows.
