Mortarboard, n.m.: What's that breadboard on the heads of American students? Called"Mortarboard" or"Oxford Cap", this symbol of accademic achievement was originally an Italian Renaissance hat, akin to the biretta worn by the clergy (hence the second part of its name; the prefix "mortar" - mortarboard coming from the object's similarity to the vessel used by the mortarboard at the time).
Used in France before becoming an essentially Anglo-Saxon symbol, the mortarboard is an essential ingredient of graduation ceremonies at Harvard, Oxford and ... Cambridge.
But who cares about such symbols in France? VICTORIA'S, of course, because we've put this hat in the spotlight above the lion that's part of our logo.
A propos du chapeau laurea
Graduation hat for men and women in the original Anglo-Saxon style. The material is black fabric with an original semi-light pendant in a long satin tuft with hardware, the year of graduation. The inside is fastened with a small elastic band.
Made to order
This is the classic Anglo-Saxon graduation hat. In Oxford, it was once used and the tag nell'Ottocento traditionally black or yellow gold. Today, it's possible to have the tag in the color of your faculty: here are a few examples:

Economics: yellow (sometimes pink)
Mathematics and science: green
Humanities: White
