The French boater hat is traditionally made from straw, which gives it a very rigid structure. Moreover, it's a hat that doesn't sit as deep as a classic hat because its crown is shallow, although it sits better than an Olney boater which often just rests on top of the head. Finally, this boater model doesn't have an inner comfort band. The head size reducer is therefore essential to make it more comfortable and secure it properly on the head (not provided with the boater).
