Cleaning mold stains

Soft bristle brush for effectively cleaning a hat

It happens that hats or caps get rained on and, if poorly dried, become moldy. While embarrassing, this situation can be remedied if the stains are not too ingrained or too significant. Here are some tips to best clean your headwear:

Step 1: Brushing

First, gently brush your hat with a soft-bristled brush. Make rotations in a counterclockwise direction.

Step 2: Cleaning

Then, soak your brush in a mixture of water and ammonia. Brush again, always in a counterclockwise direction.

If, unfortunately, your headwear is too stained, try repeating the process to reduce the worst of it. However, your hat may not regain all its splendor. To avoid this kind of problem, we advise you to make sure to let your headwear dry at room temperature when it's wet. If it has been rained on, do not put it on a radiator as this could damage it. By letting it dry at room temperature (several days if necessary), you will thus limit the risk of mold.

And for those who are not yet equipped with a hat brush, you can find some models by visiting the maintenance page of our online store. For dark-colored hats, we recommend opting for a brush with dark bristles. For a light-colored headwear, same principle: go for a brush with light bristles.
