1. The Montecristi Panama Hat 

This is considered to be the highest-end panama. As its name suggests, it is made in the Montecristi region, in Ecuador. The straw is left in the sun to dry well, before being whitened with sulfur smoke. Montecristi models benefit from exceptional lightness and very tight weaving. To obtain such a hat, it takes at least 6 months of manufacturing time. Such fineness implies a higher cost, due to the great patience and quality of work behind it.

2. The Panama Hat Cuenca

• Cuenca panamas are made in the city of the same name in Ecuador. This type of panama is easily recognizable by its elegant chevron-shaped weaving. For models made in Cuenca, the straw is boiled to remove chlorophyll to obtain a lighter color. It takes several weeks to make this type of hat. Models are generally found bleached, but some can also be dyed.

3. The Panama Hat Brisa

• The Brisa has a square-patterned weaving. This weaving is less fine and the fiber is thicker than in the other two types of panama. For many, the Brisa Panama hat is seen as an entry-level option, which nevertheless maintains excellent quality. The weaving actually ensures a more breathable hat as it allows air to flow through.
