Cinema and Literature: Legendary Hats

The Hat, a Classic!

A character accessory in its own right, the hat sometimes evokes a personality all by itself. It easily accessorizes an outfit and immediately gives style, which explains why it's so popular in the world of cinema or literature.

It's thus easy to remember a character or actor by the headwear they wore. That's why in cinema or literature, certain hats have become just as famous as the work that made them known.

Many Works Featuring Hats

                                                                                                                                                                                                                              bowler hat

Here are some examples: the peaked cap in Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, the bowler hat in The Avengers but also with the famous comedian Charlie Chaplin, Alice in Wonderland with the Mad Hatter's top hat, or Jack Sparrow's tricorn in Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones' hat...

Many others could be cited regardless of the era studied. More recently, we could think of the famous straw hat of Luffy in One Piece.

While all the characters presented here come from radically different works, they still have one thing in common: the hat!

These few examples, far from being exhaustive, perfectly remind us of the importance that a hat can have in style. It doesn't just complete the outfit: it gives it character, even an emotional dimension. Indeed, it becomes an integral part of the character themselves.

Generally, the latter never parts with it and keeps it throughout all his adventures. The hat is therefore that little extra that easily leaves a lasting impression.

The Bowler Hat

                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Charlie Chaplin      Bowler Hat

It remains the iconic hat that reminds us of the comic character of Charlie Chaplin or the adventures of the main character in The Avengers, mixing detective intrigue and humor.

Often associated with comedy due to the characters who wear it and its rounded shape, the bowler hat is also synonymous with class and elegance.

It immediately dresses up an outfit and gives a certain presence to the wearer.

Indiana Jones' Fedora/Traveller Hat

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones, this legendary character created by George Lucas. His famous hat was sold for the modest sum of €443,000 at a London auction. Needless to say, this headwear has truly left its mark!

But what does this fedora/traveller hat represent?

First, it seems important to talk about the actor who never appears without it, the role of Indiana Jones has so far always been played by the famous Harrison Ford. This actor, full of charisma and charm, who wears this fedora/traveller like no one else.

Secondly, this hat is also synonymous with adventure and freedom, indeed the character of Indiana Jones is a young historian in search of adventure and novelty. He explores unknown territories and in addition to being courageous and thrill-seeking, Indiana Jones knows how to fight, has a great sense of humor, and of course, is very appealing to women.

The adventurer's hat par excellence!

The Gavroche of Les Misérables

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Gavroche

This child named Gavroche, a striking character from Hugo's novel, is also inspired by the young boy featured in Eugène Delacroix's famous painting. Synonymous with the French Revolution and freedom.

This young boy therefore wears a cap that bears his name and which he never parts with. A cap that has become a popular headwear suitable for everyone.

This child without a real family who wanders the streets of Paris, begs, steals to live but remains happy despite everything because he is above all free!

The Mad Hatter's Top Hat

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Mad Hatter

Formerly associated with wealthy businessmen from 1800-1815, the top hat is synonymous with elegance and class.

The Mad Hatter is a character from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, inspired by real facts, particularly by craftsmen who made numerous hats and used and inhaled toxic products (like mercury) that caused them hallucinations and other illnesses.

The character of this iconic book wears the top hat in a very original way. Unique to the character, this top hat is colorful, whimsical, and full of originality.

As intriguing and magical as the one who wears it, the top hat never ceases to surprise and amuse, especially with everything the Mad Hatter can hide inside it.

An original and atypical hat, of course if you wish to wear the top hat at a grand ceremony, we advise you to choose a simpler and more subtle headwear!

And now, all you have to do is choose!

In conclusion, if you want to add a final touch to your outfit and that "little something" that makes the difference, think about a hat! Whether you're investing in headwear for everyday wear or for costume parties, you'll love wearing it!
