However, the Stetson has been a classic in the world of hats ever since its creator John B. Stetson designed a cowboy hat with a high cap and wide brim in the 1860s. Indeed, John Stetson had tried his luck in America during the Pikes Peak gold rush, but eventually followed in the footsteps of his father, himself a hatmaker, by creating the cowboy hat as we all know it. This "boss of the plains" hat, with his typicla colour and shape which later became the "Stetson", protected men from the sun in the west and further.
