The Nice hat and the wide-brimmed hat both have very wide brims that make them perfect accessories for sun protection and give a romantic touch to all outfits.
The wide-brimmed hat has one difference compared to the Nice hat; it is very flat and made of straw and especially without a crown.

The wide-brimmed hat can be made of straw, leather, fabric... often a soft material that makes its edges ripple.

Another difference; the Nice hat is crossed with a ribbon tied under the chin to keep it on the head.
This hat has been part of the traditional Nice costume since at least the 18th century.

Associated with the Nice flower seller's costume, this women's hat is often decorated with flowers.
A very popular headwear initially made from Piedmont rice straw and braided with very fine hemp thread.

Then natural rice straw, from China, was used.
Women from Nice rotate their hat following the course of the sun.

When there is no more sun, they let their hat fall on their back or hang it on their lower back.
