Niçois Hat Black
Both the Niçois hat and the capeline have very wide brims, making them perfect accessories for sun protection and adding a romantic touch to any outfit.
The capeline has one difference from the Niçois hat: it's very flat, made of straw and, above all, without a crown. The capeline can be made of straw, leather or fabric... often a supple material that makes the brim ripple.
Another difference is that the Niçois hat has a ribbon tied under the chin to keep it on the head.
This hat has been part of traditional costume in Nice since at least the 18th century.
Attributed to the bouquetière costume of Nice, this women's hat is often embellished with flowers.
A very popular headdress, originally made from Piedmont rice straw and braided with fine hemp yarn.
Then natural rice straw from China was used.
The women of Nice turn their hats to follow the path of the sun.
When the sun's gone, they drop their hats down their backs or hang them over their loins.
