Black Wool Felt Bigouden Hat - Traclet
Bigouden, a Breton word describing a small canvas appendage at the top of the Pont-L'Abbé headdress (Finistère). By extension, it became the name of the headdress worn by women in this region of Brittany.
The Bigouden hat with three ribbons (Tok teier voulouzenn) features a round crown, narrow brims, and a rigid base. The hat is trimmed with velvet (bordou voulous) with three black velvet guides (or ribbons, voulouzennoù) held by three buckles (not included) (boukl) leaving six floating panels at the back of the crown.
When worn out, this hat could be restored to "new"; this simply required redoing its velvet trim and replacing its three guides.
Sometimes, it was also kept without restoration to be used for everyday work, without remorse.
