Girondin hat in wool felt of French manufacture.

Top hat shaped hat but with a high crown of about 18 cm narrower than at its base. This hat has a very wide ribbon and a buckle; this hat also has a narrow brim.

This hat from the revolutionary era dates back to the 17th century. This hat was adopted by the GIRONDINS but especially by the Commissioners of the Revolution.

Moreover, it is also the hat of the POSTILLIONS of the 19th century.

The Girondin hat is constructed in the same way as a top hat but with a much smaller crown at its base.

This headdress is typical of the revolution and particularly of the deputies of the plain such as Nicolas de Condorcet, Jean-Marie Roland de La Platière, Jacques Pierre Brissot.

Few of these illustrious people survived the Terror, but the headdress continued to be worn throughout the 19th century, particularly by postillions.
