In 1906, Theodore Roosevelt wore a panama hat when he visited the construction of the Panama Canal. His photograph went around the world and helped make "the Panama hat" famous.
The making of a Panama hat takes an artisan between one week to six months to craft depending on the fineness of the work and the selected thickness, using only the finest "toquilla" straw fibers from the "Caludovica Palmata" palm tree.
