Its photograph has traveled around the world, leading to making this Ecuadorian hat known as the Panama.
The Panama has covered the heads of many famous men, such as Ernest Hemingway, Winston Churchill, Harry Truman, Paul Newman, and Alberto Santos-Dumont.
The Panama is very flexible and can be rolled or folded for transport in a box. Today, this hat, made in various styles and shapes, is worn by men, women, and children worldwide.
Experience the legend of the authentic Panama!
Panama Ecua-Andino. They have developed a community project to promote hat weaving activity in the coastal region of Simón Bolívar (Ecuador): regular visits to villagers to buy hats at prices fixed in dollars, raising awareness about the importance of product quality
Currently, a weaver working eight hours a day can earn enough to feed their family.
In this region, for decades, villagers no longer wove hats but only prepared palm leaves that grew in their own domain to ship them to Montecristi and Cuenca for weaving.
Since the launch of our project, older people have begun showing new generations the art of hat weaving, and the number of weavers is steadily increasing.
Similarly, they have learned to crochet with these fibers - our new "Hippie" model is the only Panama that is not woven but crocheted and made exclusively in the Simón Bolívar region.
Thanks to our customers worldwide, we have created the foundation for new economic development in Ecuador's rural coastal sector.
