English Bowler Hat
It has been regularly shown in movies ranging from "Laurel and Hardy" to "Orange Mécanique" without forgetting Charlot which is one of the best known. And of course the TV series "Bowler hat and leather boot". Today, practically abandoned by men, it is a delight for young girls who do not hesitate to wear it carelessly backwards.
In the United States, this hat is known as the"Derby". But in England it is known as a Derby "bowler hat". The Derby/Barrel Hat is a rigid dome-shaped hat with a small curved edge and is traditionally made of stiff felt. It was created by an Englishman, James Coke in 1850. It was designed to protect the head. Making a peak of popularity towards the end of the 19th century, it offered a central avenue between the aristocratic classes and the occasional nature of the soft hats worn by the petty bourgeoisies. It was usually worn with costumes or overcoats and symbolized the male habit. He was the traditional headwear of London's people and became a British cultural icon. However, British and American men stopped wearing hats in the 1960s, and most young people in the 21st century have never seen a Derby hat/bowler hat worn as part of the current wardrobe.
