The History of the Cloche Hat

She thus adorned many crowned heads, such as the Princess of Metternich in the 1860s, or even Empress Eugénie.

An exceptional milliner who never stopped creating unique and very original pieces for her clients. It was in 1920 that she created her very first model of cloche hat: a hat that departed from all the feminine codes of the time.

Indeed, during the Roaring Twenties, hats for women were very sophisticated and eye-catching. The cloche hat, however, was unlike any other, simply adorned with a large fabric grosgrain on the side or a feather, it wasn't an extravagant accessory! On the contrary, it even had a rather boyish look, which was quite surprising at that time. The advantage of this hat was that it went very well with short hairstyles like the bob, which was very popular at that time.

The cloche hat was therefore quickly adopted by fashion enthusiasts and thus became the iconic accessory of the 1920s!
