A bit of history

Davy Crockett was born in Tennessee and descended from French Huguenots. He was the fifth child of nine siblings and did not receive an elaborate education. Widowed from Polly (1788-1815) who gave birth to three children, he remarried in 1815 to Elizabeth Patton and had four children with her. Since 1909, numerous movies and television series have told the story of Davy Crockett, including a five-episode series by Walt Disney Company in 1954. Crockett was portrayed, among others, by John Wayne in his first directed film Alamo in 1960. In 1956, Disneyland offered a small museum about the character in the Frontierland section of the park. Life-size wax figures of Fess Parker and Buddy Ebsen, the actors who played the heroes in the series produced by Walt Disney Pictures, were displayed in an Alamo setting. The museum closed quickly, but the wax mannequins were moved to the nearby Tom Sawyer Island and remained visible for several decades.
