What hat to wear in autumn/winter?

The air is getting cooler, the days are getting shorter and the wind is picking up. While it's not really cold yet, it might be time to switch from the straw hat to a seasonal headwear. Here's a selection of shapes and models suitable for autumn:

The cap 

They can be found in more insulating materials for cool days, such as leather or wool. A cotton or linen model can also be sufficient if it's not too cold. There is a wide choice of different colors and materials available.

Hatteras, newsboy, army or Irish, the choice is yours. There's no lack of options: there are models of all styles for all ages. It's also a timeless headwear that can bring a retro touch to your outfit depending on the shape chosen. While all shapes suit men, women tend to prefer a newsboy model: however, know that hatteras, Irish or flat cap models also go well with a feminine look.

The fedora 

An essential in the wardrobe, it's easily recognized by its high crown and medium brims. For mid-season, we'll avoid models that look too much like straw hats and opt for something more dressy. You can find many models in felt wool or fur, perfect materials for combining warmth and elegance in autumn. If you're nostalgic for summer and want to stick to straw models, know that it's entirely possible by preferably opting for neutral colors. Brown, taupe or grey allow you to switch in the blink of an eye from a summer style to something more autumnal. With the fedora available in many styles and models, you'll have no trouble finding yours! The favorite: the famous Borsalino which offers real presence in all circumstances.

The trilby 

Again, there are many models with a wide range of colors and materials. Simple to wear and very easy to accessorize, the trilby is the miniature version of the fedora, with much narrower brims.

If the weather is cool but not too cold, you can stick with cotton or linen materials, which come in many colors. Blue, white, brown, patterned or plain... there's plenty of choice! If you want to opt for a slightly warmer hat, look at leather or felt trilbies. They will allow you to keep your head warm while finishing your outfit with a trendy accessory. Whatever outfit you wear, you'll always find suitable models: dressed up or casual style, it's up to you. It's also a simple shape to wear and accessorize, for both men and women.

The wide-brimmed hat 

A type of hat that is exclusively for women. Elegant and feminine, it was a favorite of Brigitte Bardot and other retro stars.

To keep your head sheltered from the cold and wind, you can opt for felt wool models, a material that has good insulating properties. This type of hat can also be waterproofed to go out safely, even in light rain. While it's not always easy to wear, the wide-brimmed hat is nonetheless a trendy hat that comes in a wide variety of models. For those who are hesitant to take the plunge, choose a model with narrower brims. Wider brims offer perfect elegance, but attract more attention.

The bowler hat

The famous derby is no longer reserved for men in three-piece suits!

Whether you're a man or a woman, you can adopt the bowler for a rock and original look. It's worn tilted backwards, to break a too conservative style. In terms of outfit, anything goes: dress, pants, shirt, big sweater... The key is to play with winning color combinations. Moreover, you're not obliged to wear a black bowler! It exists in many colors to brighten up the autumn weather a bit: blue, red, yellow, green, burgundy... Play with originality.

The timeless beret 

It's found in wool for autumn, in all sorts of colors. To avoid being too cliché, avoid wearing it with a striped sailor shirt. As the beret is one of the unisex hats, it suits both men and women! Again, don't limit your choice to black: it exists in all imaginable colors.

There are obviously other types of hats to wear for mid-season, such as the cloche hat, beanie or even the porkpie. This list is therefore only an overview of the headwear you can adopt for autumn. It's up to you to decide, depending on your style and what you're looking for!
